Meet Helen, Auntie Pauline and Uncle Peter.
Let me tell you a little bit about my story. I’m sure this will help you decide that Villa Andalucía is in good hands and you’ll want to stay with us. Read on to find out more about us.
I am Helen Hares. I’m here to give you a truly wonderful experience that feels like heaven on earth! So many guests have said this to me over the years or that Villa Andalucía is paradise! This is the emotive language guests use when they talk about us.
For 18 years I have lived here, with my Auntie Pauline and Uncle Peter and their little dog, Izzy. We have been running a successful business since 2007. I really love meeting guests from all over the world and welcoming them into our lovely home. We would love to welcome you too.
I don’t want to bore you with my life history, just say a few words to show how my previous career helped me to be as successful as I am now.
Life before moving to Spain
Prior to coming to Spain to semi-retire, I had worked for a bank for 32 years.
Whilst working in the bank, I had also been a part owner of two businesses.
The first business we owned was a fish and chip shop, followed by a second business, which was a convenience store.
All my life has been dealing with the public and looking after them and I will certainly do the same for you. That’s another USP (Unique selling point) about us – the way we treat our guests.
How did I come to live here in Spain?
At the age of 24, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I have always been much healthier in dry warmer climates and knew that one day I would live abroad. I am very much a believer in the philosophy “Life is for living if you want something, go for it!”
Something I have always done is set myself some goals. So far, I have never failed in achieving them.
I said by the age of 50 I would be living in Spain and I was!
What can you expect?
We found the perfect place; right on the end of the village, Villa Andalucía is just a ten-minute walk from the centre of Cómpeta.
I wanted peace and tranquility, not to be on the coast with crowded villages. Views of the sea and mountains were important to us, and we have amazing breathtaking views of the mountains, the coast and spectacular sunsets.
We are right on the edge of the Sierra de Tejeda mountain range, a perfect area for walking and ideal for walkers of all levels.
You can enjoy the peace and tranquility of our beautiful gardens and our crystal blue swimming pool, just what you need after a good days walk or stroll into the village.
Walking distance to a village with good food and drink was a must for us and Cómpeta certainly offers that.
It wasn’t our intention to start a B&B but at 48 I was too young to retire and our children did not want to move out here, so what do we do with our spare rooms?
We decided on starting some sort of business we could love, and the experience of our previous jobs made life a lot easier in succeeding in doing it, so why not share our lovely home?
All our rooms have been individually designed, have their own character and are named after fruits.
All our guests have access to the private outdoor swimming pool, mature gardens and meditation area. There are ample sun loungers for everyone to relax on by the poolside. This is one of the great things about us and the beauty of staying in a small place – no fighting for the sun-bed
Each room has the basics and of course, you would expect that about us:
Bed linen, nice fluffy towels, air-conditioning to cool and heat. All provided.
In addition, you have a fridge, drink-making facilities, cutlery, and plates. Complimentary tea, coffee, etc. This isn’t the norm in Spain, but is yet another thing about us that we’re proud to offer.
You have your own terrace with sun loungers or sunbeds and outside clothes dryers – another must over here in Spain. An outside table to sit at too and watch the sunsets, as we are south facing and have the sun until the last minute. Another great thing about us.

Yes, I have more to offer than just a room, great breakfasts, lovely gardens and a fabulous swimming pool! You’ve read this much about us, but there’s more.
I can advise you what to do, and where to go in and around Competa.
Arranging trips for you is something that can be easily achieved. Maybe you would like to go and walk the Camino del Rey, a famous walk with breathtaking views about 1.5 hours away or go on an exclusive boat trip.
If you want to stay local why not visit the local wineries, or go on a avocados and mangos tour?
There are plenty of things for you to do in the local area, and I’m happy to talk about them.

Are you coming on holiday to celebrate a special occasion?
I can arrange exclusive dining here at the villa for you, A chef will come and serve you an exclusive meal here in the gardens (weather permitting).
In fact, it doesn’t need to be a special occasion to treat yourselves when you are on holiday.
We have several chefs available to serve you different authentic food, have a look at our PRIVATE DINING
My Aunt and Uncle had never been to Spain before and they do not for one minute regret moving here, I am sure you will feel the same after staying here.
They enjoy having guests here and they love entertaining. Auntie Pauline used to be a chef, and my Uncle Peter loves cooking too. You may find yourself enjoying their culinary skills.
Guests especially love listening to the stories they tell about us and our experiences whilst having a glass or two of cava.
